How might counselling help?

There are times when all of us can find life difficult. Sometimes there might seem to be an obvious reason, such as a stressful job, a loss or bereavement or an unhappy relationship. At other times there might just be feelings of dissatisfaction, unhappiness or low mood.

Sometimes it's difficult identify what is actually going wrong in your life and how this has arisen. The counselling I offer helps to clarify emotions and feelings and helps provide an insight to a useful way forward. It provides an opportunity to make sense of your individual circumstances. This may lead to trying to understand what is happening now in your life or maybe exploring past relationships and events. Although this type of work is not structured in the same way as CBT, I may draw on some techniques from this model.

An important part of the way I work is to build a confidential counselling relationship where it feels safe to explore issues that are important to you, where there is time to reflect and to be heard.

My training has been in integrative counselling which means that I bring together my own experience of life, with different aspects of counselling models to work in a way which is unique to you and your experiences.
